AU Citizenship Test: Values
Last Updated: September 26, 2026
Privacy Policy
Honeymilk Studio ("we", "us", or "our") operates AU Citizenship Test: Values (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our App. We are committed to protecting your privacy and to handling personal information in a manner consistent with Australia's Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, as well as the privacy laws that apply where we operate.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information We Do Not Collect
We want to be clear about what we do not collect:
- Name, email address, or contact information
- Account credentials or passwords (no account is required)
- Location data (GPS, IP-based location, etc.)
- Photos, contacts, calendar, or other personal files
- Payment or financial information (all purchases are processed directly by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store — we never see or handle your payment card details)
1.2 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data on your device using a local database. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:
- Study progress: which questions you have answered, whether your answers were correct, your Values Drill mastery, lesson completion, and your progress through chapters and topics.
- Session history: records of study sessions, mock exams, and flashcard reviews, including timestamps and scores. The App saves a session as you go so it can resume where you left off.
- Saved items: questions and flashcards you have starred, and the wrong answers Smart Review collects.
- Study plan: the test date you enter and the daily target calculated from it. If you turn on the optional daily reminder (off by default), the App asks your device for notification permission and schedules the reminder on your device only; nothing is sent to a server.
- My Timeline: the citizenship milestones, optional council, and any test result you choose to log. If you share a timeline card, the App renders an image of those milestones on your device and hands it to the apps you pick in your device's share sheet.
- Unlocks and preferences: which mock exams you have unlocked by watching a rewarded ad, whether you have completed onboarding and accepted the disclaimer, and settings such as animation and haptic feedback preferences.
- Anonymous analytics ID: a random identifier generated on first launch and stored on your device. It is not derived from your device's hardware, advertising identifier, or any account, and it is only used to group the analytics events described below.
1.3 Information Collected by Third-Party Services
The App uses third-party services that may collect certain information automatically. We do not control the data these services collect, but we are transparent about their use:
| Service | Purpose | Data Collected | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Display advertisements | Device advertising identifier, IP address, device information (model, OS version), ad interaction data (views, clicks), app usage data for ad relevance | Google Privacy Policy |
| PostHog | Analytics and crash reporting | Usage events keyed to the random analytics ID described in Section 1.2: app opens and closes, onboarding completed, quiz / flashcard / Smart Review / Values Drill sessions started and completed, mock exam started and submitted (with the score and whether the values rule was met), lessons opened, test date set and reminder toggled, timeline milestones added and cards shared, paywall shown, purchase restored, rewarded ad watched. Each event carries device type, OS version and app version. The content of your answers, your test date, and your timeline notes are never sent. | PostHog Privacy Policy |
| RevenueCat | In-app purchase management | Purchase history (transaction records, amounts, timestamps), anonymous app user identifier, device and app context (operating system, app version). RevenueCat does not receive payment card details — all payment processing is handled by Apple or Google. Data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in the United States. | RevenueCat Privacy Policy |
| Google Fonts | Display app typography | IP address and basic request data when the Nunito font files are fetched from Google's servers on first use (the App falls back to a system font while offline) | Google Fonts Privacy |
1.4 Device Features and Platform Services
Some features hand off to your device or the app store rather than to us:
- Notifications: the optional daily study reminder uses your device's local notification system. We do not operate a push notification service.
- Share sheet: sharing a timeline card opens your device's standard share sheet; what happens to the image after that is governed by the app you choose.
- Store review prompts: after you report passing the real test, or from Settings, the App may ask the Apple App Store or Google Play to show their standard in-app review prompt. Apple and Google handle any review you leave under their own policies.
- External links: links to this Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, and the Department of Home Affairs open in your browser.
2. How We Use Information
We use information for the following purposes:
- App functionality: Your locally stored progress data powers the App's study tracking, Values Drill mastery, exam readiness calculations, study plan, and session resume features — all processed entirely on your device.
- Advertising: Google AdMob uses device and usage data to display advertisements to free-tier users, including optional rewarded ads that unlock extra mock exams. Premium users who purchase the one-time upgrade do not see advertisements, and no ad-related data is collected for those users.
- Purchase management: RevenueCat processes purchase transaction records to verify and manage your premium entitlement status. This allows us to unlock premium features after purchase and restore your purchase on a new device using your Apple ID or Google account.
- Analytics and improvement: PostHog helps us understand which features are most useful, identify bugs and crashes, and improve the App experience. This data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Typography: Google Fonts loads the App's typeface over the internet when available.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not have access to your study progress or session data. The only data sharing occurs through the third-party services described in Section 1.3 above, which operate under their own privacy policies.
4. Data Retention
- Local data: Your study progress and preferences remain on your device until you delete them (using the "Reset All Progress" option in Settings) or uninstall the App.
- Third-party data: Data collected by Google AdMob, PostHog, RevenueCat, and Google Fonts is retained according to their respective privacy policies and data retention schedules.
- Purchase records: Your purchase entitlement status is managed by RevenueCat and can be restored across devices via your Apple ID or Google account. Unlike local study data, purchase status is not lost when you uninstall the App.
5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Managing Your Local Data
You have full control over the data stored on your device:
- Delete study progress: Use the "Reset All Progress" option in the App's Settings screen (you will be asked to type CONFIRM) to permanently delete all quiz progress, mock exam results, lesson progress, rewarded-ad unlocks, saved items, and study history.
- Uninstall the App: Removing the App from your device will delete all locally stored data, including progress and preferences.
5.2 Managing Advertising Preferences
- Remove ads entirely: Purchasing the one-time premium upgrade removes all advertisements from the App. Once premium, no ad-related data is collected or shared with Google AdMob.
- Ad personalization: You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings. On iOS, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. On Android, go to Settings > Privacy > Ads.
- Ad identifier: You can reset or limit your device's advertising identifier through your device's privacy settings.
5.3 Your Rights Under Australian Privacy Law
Under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you (in our case, none — all data is local to your device or held by third-party services);
- Request access to and correction of that information;
- Withdraw consent for data collection (by adjusting device settings or uninstalling the App);
- Make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe your privacy rights have been breached.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 is using the App, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps. The age restriction is also stated in our Terms of Use.
7. Data Security
Because the App stores data locally on your device and does not transmit personal data to our servers, the security of your study data depends on the security of your device. We recommend that you:
- Keep your device's operating system up to date;
- Use a passcode, fingerprint, or face recognition to protect your device;
- Only download the App from official app stores (Apple App Store or Google Play Store).
8. International Data Transfers
While the App is designed for users in Australia, Honeymilk Studio is based in Canada, and the third-party services we use (Google AdMob, PostHog, RevenueCat, Google Fonts) may process data on servers located outside of Australia, including in the United States. In particular, RevenueCat stores purchase data on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in the United States. These services maintain their own safeguards for international data transfers as described in their respective privacy policies.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
